Phnom Penh, Cambodia – In a vibrant gathering at the Cuban Ambassador’s residence, Jake Sanders, Editor of World Cigar News, led a delegation that included Mr. Da Fai Lam, Director of Mufasa Cigar Lounge; Kevin Sysyn, musician and founder of the Kids on the Bridge educational charity; and Mr. Surya, Editor in Chief of Better Cambodia News. Her Excellency Ambassador Milena Caridad Zaldívar Piedra noted that this year marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Cuba. She expressed her hopes for a significant cultural impact, especially with the upcoming visit of the Cuban National Ballet Troupe and the celebration of Cuban Culture Day on October 20th.
In a forward-thinking proposal, Jake Sanders suggested that Mufasa Cigar Lounge could serve as a Cuban Culture Center, thanks to its ample space for displaying artworks like paintings and sculptures. Both Ambassador Zaldívar and Mr. Lam expressed enthusiasm for the idea, paving the way for Mufasa to actively promote Cuban cultural events alongside its cigar offerings.

The discussions also delved into renewable energy initiatives, particularly small-scale projects being developed in China and Kampot, which could be beneficial for Cuba. The focus was on individual home solar battery storage systems, promising a sustainable solution for energy needs.
In a show of international camaraderie, the Ambassador sent video greetings to the Ambassadors of Solomon Islands and Grenada based in Beijing, who are planning a visit to Cambodia in March. The aim is to exchange ideas on renewable energy, healthcare, education, and other vital topics.
Sysyn, reflecting on his charitable work in Cambodia, highlighted his efforts in building two schools from the ground up, providing education to hundreds of children from low-income families. His charity group is; Kids On The Bridge in Siem Reap.
Mr. Surya introduced the Canberra Investment Fund and showcased his media platform, www.thebettercambodia.com, underscoring the importance of collaboration in fostering positive change.
